Forest management is about irrigating the forest trees in the harsh desert environment of the UAE. All management activities are geared towards maintaining the 14 million trees with water, which is irrigated from 5 651 wells through a network of more than 55 000 kilometres of irrigation pipes.
The main intervention
s in pursuit of optimizing the management of the forests are:
- Water source management and supply
- Energy supply to pumping equipment
- Water distribution in the field
- Salt management
- Forest grading within a framework of soil-water-plant interactions, that provides management units within each forest
The final output of Barari Forest Management’s technical development since inception was to develop an integrated spatially-based management system for the vast number of assets and provide data and analysis to decision makers. Red flags or critical and urgent interventions are indicated through regular monitoring and assessing specific internal production processes.
