Barari Forest Management was established on 24 December 2007 as a Limited Liability Company. The company entered into an agreement with the Environmental Agency of Abu Dhabi to manage, operate, maintain and develop identified forests, gardens and infrastructure.
The Emirate of Abu Dhabi has approximately 250 000 hectare of forests that were established by government, over and above the gardening in the cities and along main roads. Barari is contracted by the government to manage approximately 120 000 hectares of land, of which 75 196 hectares are planted to forests.
The forests are seen to be beneficial in the following ways:
- It has an aesthetically pleasing greening effect
- It presents effective screens against sand storms and dune invasion of roads, agricultural holdings and populated areas
- It is serving a conservation purpose
- It provides shelter and fodder for large numbers of wild animals
- It has a positive impact on the spiritual well being on society
Barari Forest Management is committed towards improving the quality of the forests and to optimize the existing forest management infrastructure. New activities are continuously being investigated for implementation that can augment Barari’s income and improve environmental sustainability.
Recognised for its experience, professionalism and capacity in forest management, Barari is often contracted by government and other agencies to provide related advisory and technical services in other geographic areas and on other projects.
